First Food Trucks, Now Mental Health Trucks

One of the hottest trends in many urban cities around the United States is the Gourmet Food Trucks. The basic concept behind these trucks is to bring expensive gourmet food to the streets at reasonable prices. When the Kogi Truck, the first of these trucks hit the streets of Los Angeles people lined up around the block. Within a year there were dozens of trucks, websites devoted to locating them and Facebook fan pages with loyal followers demanding that they come to specific neighborhoods.

On any given day trucks of different cuisines will cluster together on various streets. At lunch time, one block could be home to cuisines including: Mexican, Thai, Cuban, Italian, Burgers, Indian and Vietnamese to name a few. There are even dessert trucks and trucks for your dog. Yes, there is now a gourmet dog biscuit truck that is often parked at local dog parks.

What a great concept. As this trend spreads it is no surprise that there is now a Mobile Mental Health Truck. CounselingCalifornia.com, part of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, created this truck and it is currently on a state wide run imparting mental health information to the public. Now they aren’t exactly doing therapy in the truck but wouldn’t that be a logical next step.

Often times people that live in rural areas or those in poor urban neighborhoods have little access to mental health care. Wouldn’t it be great to bring affordable therapy to those who need it but can’t easily get to a clinic or office? For instance, a truck could park weekly at a designated spot. Clients wouldn’t have to worry about transportation and could access therapy during lunch breaks or when their children are in school. Instead of various cuisines gathering daily, it could be different medical and wellness disciplines such as a Acupuncture truck and Dental Truck all on the same block.
